Sawdust Soup

Anybody out there producing turnings with CNC equipment? I am interested in getting a CNC lathe. Currently I am using manual copy lathes.

Hi Kelly,

I don't know how much you are looking at spending but here are a couple of possible solutions.

Thermwood offers a rotary playback which allows you to machine turnings. You can view some of this here:

You can also visit our Production Sharing members on our thermwood.com website and I'm sure that some of them would be more than able to produce turnings for you as well.

Thanks Jason,

This is precisely what I am talking to the local rep about right now. Seems like it is lower cost than buying a lathe and gives me flexibility to cut sheet goods. What time is needed to re and re the spindle? I may go back and forth between sheet goods and turning quite often.

yes i have done this, aspire by vectric is adding rotary tool ptathing to its 2.5 release and i have tested it, the release will be out before christmas,

i am dion this on a CAMaster x3 with a side mounted lathe, there are a good many videos of us doing this on you tube, search camaster or mcgrewwoodwork
