Web 2.0 is history the world is into 3.0 and the traits of 4.0 have already begun.
Twitter, Linkedin, Facebook, Xing, Plaxo, Facebook, You Tube, Friendster.
It's a customer driven world now and people Want it there way.

The big question is why would you not embrace it. Computers are everywhere, 40% of the US has some form of a smart phone. The future generations live by the phone. Google studies intentions, behaviors. Social media is all about intentions and behaviors.
Alot of business in this industry is about referrals, testimonials, word of mouth.
It's time to move that from the the street and the phone to the web. You need to have a integrated marketing approach to your offline and online campaign.
Whether Twitter will still be a player 3 years from now no one knows. But it's here now. I'm on linkedin and several others. If your looking for resources go check out my profile on linkedin and you can see everything I've been reading and it will get you on your way. If you want to connect on linkedin once you join ask me to linkin and you can see what's going on.
In reference to Ralph's comments to get the most out of it you need to interact with it.

The web 2.0 thing is really changing the world for the small business person. Segmented email blasts, linking to galleries websites and them to yours, online communities, companies like custommade.com that do the search optimization for you. The potential for getting your product and message out there has never been better.

Just joined the Social Media group--joined SawDustSoup a month ago. Started reviewing Tweets on Twitter (not sent any yet), use email blast to communicate with customers. Always looking for new ways to get, share information and promote our business.
