Comment by Scott Johnston on January 24, 2011 at 1:37am So far, I'm connected with fellow woodworkers thru Sawdust and liked groups even on LinkedIn. These social media groups are great with connecting with others to discuss common issues in the woodworkers industry.
Now, if I'm going to look for work, I'm joining groups that have the right kind of members that could use my services. Getting involved in discussions when I can and starting discussions with a question, in hopes to start a dialog and getting members to view my website.
Regarding FaceBook, the marketing professionals say, keep your personal and business separate! You don't want potential clients reading and viewing pics of your personal life and set up your business account so that you have control of the blogging activity.
Even reviewing Sawdust group 'Social Media for Woodworkers' and like groups and even talking to other woodworkers, going back to 2007 who market on FB, I have not yet seen one posting or talked to a woodworker/studio furniture maker ever getting a job direct from FB friends/follower or other.
So, I ask the members, if the marketing professionals have been saying FB is the direction we need go, then were is the evidence to support this direction.
If I'm mistaken, please let me know if FB is working for you and kind of quality jobs your getting.
