Gary,
Have you trained everyone in the basic Lean tools such as 5S, Set-up reduction, Waste identification? I have found that quantum leap improvement comes from an actively engaged workforce that embraces the Lean initiative and is empowered to make change happen. Kaizen events are just a tool of Lean, I don't recommend them as the focal point of change. If you are not familiar with my articles in FDM, maybe you can surf their archives and find some interesting reading. I also have a couple of books out and another one in the publishing stage. I don't presume to know your operation or the reasoning for the strategy for improvement so please don't think I am being critical. I'm just sharing my experiece with you. Sustainment of the continuous improvement culture is critical for any successful Lean journey. If you don't spend time building the right foundation, the process can crumble when push comes to shove and leadership focus shifts to other priorities. I imagine you what Lean to be self-sustaining. If you are interested, I can send you a copy of each of my books and will be glad to send the new one when it comes out or you can order my latest one, Story of a Lean Journey, from SME.org. Please excuse the commercial.

I worked with two store fixture companies implementing Lean. One was Bernstein Display in NYC and the other was Seven Continents Enterprises in Toronto. Both companies have done well with the Lean business model. Are you using outside resources for Lean or managing it with internal resources?

Welcome Gary. It's nice to see another store fixture guy in the soup. Check out the Lean mfg group when you get time. We would like to have you join.
