We received a summary of the findings of the American Institute of Architects Home Design Trends Survey. Looking for domestic case goods supplier

I am a Lean specialist working with a North Carolina case goods manufacturer who is interested in bringing product back from the Pacific Rim to manufacture in-house or domestically. They have found that importing is not their cup of tea. They have a high end product and are interested in developing relationships with companies that can manufacture what they need, when they need it, at a price that creates a win/win/win for the supplier, the company, and the customer. Found a busy shop

I found a woodshop that was busy. Last week, I stopped by the local park district woodshop to say hello and was surprised to see seven or eight people all working on projects -- at about 1 p.m. on a Friday. My first thought was that they may have been unemployed and were taking advantage of the time off to finish up that table. I didn't ask if this was the case, however. Maybe they were retired. Either way, they were cutting, sanding and finishing. That's always good to see.

New poll up and waiting for your prediction

We have a new poll up and we decided to ask the $64,000 question: When do you think the recession will end? So, get out your crystal balls and make a prediction. And while you are doing that, you can check out a story about a noted economist who spoke at the Stiles Executive Breifing conference and made his predictions for the woodworking industry. This is from someone who predicted the recession, so at least he has a track record, which…

Participate in our weekly poll

I hope you've noticed that we've added a weekly opinion poll to Sawdust Soup. If you haven't seen it yet, look for it on the lower left-hand side of the main page. Every week we plan to post a new question. Last week's question probed issues of business challenges in the current economy. Lack of work and a need for marketing was at the top of most people's lists. This week we're taking that a step farther with a question about what kinds of marketing tools you find most…
