Sawdust Soup

If a tree falls in a large city, does it become an art concept? Yes, according to a report in the Chicago Reader. The Idea Tree was an art exhibition that included objects made from a single downed elm tree. Paul Pettigrew, a professor at the Illinois Institute of Technology, set up a competition with the help of craftspeople at Sawbridge Studios in Winnetka, Ill. Students created furniture and other objects from the one tree, and more than 40 were later displayed. Tables, candles, cutting boards and a coat rack were among items displayed.
