Sawdust Soup

We take an October trip almost every year and this month we went to northern Pennsylvania and western New York. The word Pennsylvania actually came from "Penn's Woods." There are a lot of forests in the state. I read the percentage of Pennsylvania that is covered with forest land and it is more than two-thirds if I remember. We especially enjoyed Cook Forest and Clear Creek state parks and the Sawmill Center for the Arts. Cook Forest was one of the first areas preserved in the state and today has many old-growth Eastern white pine and Eastern hemlock trees. Elsewhere the maples were in full color.
